On June 9, 2016, thrice-listed miner, Petra Diamonds, will put in auction, at Christie’s, its 24.18 ct diamond, Cullinan Dream. The stone could be sold for up to $29 million. Petra Diamonds will receive 15pc of the proceeds of the sale.
Cullinan Dream is one the four blue diamonds cut from the largest 122.52 ct diamond that the firm found at its Cullinan mine in South Africa. The three other diamonds respectively weigh 11.3 ct, 10.3 ct and 7 ct.
The Cullinan mine is famous for producing in 1905, the world’s biggest raw diamond weighing 3,106 ct. Since it acquired the mine in 2008, Petra Diamonds has found other big blue diamonds including the Blue Moon of Josephine, a 12.03 ct stone sold for $48.5 million.
