Algeria expects record olive oil output in 2025/2026 season
Tuesday, 13 January 2026 14:09
  • Production is projected at over 150,000 tons, a historic high
  • Output would rise 76% year on year, marking a third straight increase
  • Higher volumes could support stronger export ambitions

Algeria’s olive oil production for the ongoing 2025/2026 season is expected to exceed 150,000 tons, according to the latest projections from the National Interprofessional Council of the Olive Sector (CNIFO). Speaking to local media on January 6, CNIFO President Mohamed Belasla said the forecast would represent a historic record for the sector.

If confirmed at the end of the season, the projected output would represent a 76% increase compared with the previous campaign and mark a third consecutive year of growth. Data compiled by the International Olive Council (IOC) show that Algeria’s production stood at 85,000 tons in 2024/2025 and 64,000 tons in 2023/2024.

“This remarkable performance concerns all producing regions and reflects the efforts made in recent years to develop the sector. The 2025/2026 campaign could also extend beyond February due to the large volumes to be processed,” Belasla said.

The expected rise in output could allow Algeria’s olive oil sector to pursue stronger export ambitions. According to the IOC, domestic consumption averaged about 81,000 tons per year between the 2020/2021 and 2023/2024 seasons, suggesting that the projected 150,000 tons in 2025/2026 could generate an exportable surplus.

The largest volume of olive oil exported by Algeria over the past five marketing seasons was recorded in 2023/2024, when shipments totaled around 1,000 tons, according to IOC data.
