Global Soybean Production to Reach Record High in 2025-26, USDA Says

  • Global soybean output to hit record 425.8M tons in 2025/26
  • Brazil leads with 175M tons; U.S. and Argentina decline
  • China to import 112M tons; soybean oil to top 70M tons

Global soybean production is projected to reach a record 425.8 million metric tons during the 2025/2026 season, according to the latest monthly projections from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

This volume represents an increase of more than one million metric tons from the previous season, continuing a decade-long trend of rising production. Since the 2015/2016 season, global soybean output has grown by more than 100 million metric tons, surpassing any other oilseed crop worldwide.

The USDA forecasts Brazil will remain the undisputed leader, with production rising to 175 million metric tons, up from 169 million tons the previous year, and accounting for about 40% of the world's supply. The United States and Argentina, the world's second and third-largest producers, are expected to see slight decreases, with production at 117 million metric tons and 48.5 million metric tons, respectively.

On the trade front, China is expected to remain the primary driver of demand, absorbing 112 million metric tons of soybeans, or 60% of global imports. Beyond the raw beans, the USDA also predicts that soybean oil production could exceed 70 million metric tons for the first time in 2025/2026. This is expected to intensify competition with palm oil, as the two vie for a larger share of the global edible oils market.
