Morocco’s tomato exports hit record 745,000 tons in 2024/25

Morocco exported 745,000 tons of tomatoes during the July 2024–June 2025 season, marking a new record. According to EastFruit, citing data from Morocco’s Foreign Exchange Office, these exports generated $1.2 billion in revenue, up 8.3% from the previous season.

France was the leading buyer, taking nearly 50% of Moroccan exports in 2024/25, followed by the United Kingdom (15%) and the Netherlands. Beyond these three markets, demand also increased in Germany, Portugal, Belgium, and Sweden, as well as in West African countries such as Mauritania and Senegal.

Despite domestic challenges, including drought and labor shortages, the sector showed resilience on the international market.

With geographical proximity to Europe, tariff advantages under EU agreements, and stronger cost competitiveness compared to Spain, Morocco’s tomato industry has nearly doubled its exports to the EU over the past decade.

Observers say the next challenge will be to surpass 800,000 tons in the coming season, at a time when domestic constraints persist and European competition, especially from Spanish producers, continues to intensify.
