Minimum producer price set at 12 cedis per kg for 2025/2026
Price is down 20% from the previous season
Ghana’s cashew output seen at up to 170,000 tons in 2025
In Ghana, the minimum farmgate purchase price for raw cashew nuts has been set at 12 cedis per kilogram ($1.04) for the 2025/2026 marketing season. The announcement was made in a statement released on December 15, by the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA).
The new price represents a 20% decline from the 15 cedis per kilogram ($1.30) applied during the previous season. While the TCDA did not specify the factors behind the reduction, it said the decision was taken by consensus with stakeholders across the value chain, including producers, aggregators, traders, exporters, and processors, with the aim of strengthening competition in the domestic market.
According to the statement, the price is based on prevailing Free On Board (FOB) market levels, using a six-month average exchange rate provided by the Bank of Ghana, along with other operational and statutory parameters. The TCDA said it will continue to monitor market developments and adjust the minimum farmgate price as needed to reflect changing conditions, ensure price stability, and promote fairness within the cashew industry.
No official production forecast has yet been released by the TCDA for the upcoming season. However, a report published in November on the West African cashew market by analyst and international expert Jim Fitzpatrick estimates that Ghana’s output could range between 160,000 and 170,000 tons in 2025.
If confirmed, these volumes would allow Ghana to maintain its position as the fifth-largest cashew producer in West Africa, behind Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, and Benin, according to the report.
