Burkina Faso has brought a new maize processing facility into operation in Bobo-Dioulasso. President Ibrahim Traoré inaugurated the plant on Saturday, December 20. The mill, developed by agri-food company Agroserv Industrie, represents a total investment of CFA11 billion ($19.7 million).
According to local media reports, the facility has a processing capacity of 160 tons of maize per day. It is also equipped to produce 12 tons of infant flour daily.
The commissioning of the mill strengthens Burkina Faso’s maize processing capacity and provides an additional market outlet for local producers. Active in maize processing for 17 years, Agroserv Industrie says it sources raw materials from a network of more than 3,000 producers.
For the company, the objective is to add value to local output and capture market share in processed products by replacing part of current imports. “Agroserv Industrie aims to contribute, through productive private investment, to achieving food self-sufficiency and reducing dependence on imports,” company founder Siaka Sanon said, according to Burkina 24.
As part of its industrialization policy, the government has granted tax exemptions since 2024 for locally produced cereal flour, with the aim of encouraging investment in the sector.
Burkina Faso’s maize production is expected to rise 14.61% to reach 2.68 million tons in the 2025/2026 season. With new processing units coming on stream, stronger industrial demand could further stimulate production in the coming years.
