(Ecofin Agency) - The NCC Digital Innovation Park in Ogun marks a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital future, showcasing a united federal and state commitment to building a skilled, tech-driven, and inclusive economy.

The Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, has officially commissioned the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) Digital Innovation Park in Abeokuta, Ogun State. The facility aims to accelerate Nigeria’s digital transformation by supporting tech startups, empowering young people with digital skills, and fostering a thriving innovation ecosystem.

Commissioned on June 4, the park reaffirms the Federal Government’s commitment to making Nigeria a global hub for digital innovation. The centre will serve as a launchpad for local innovation and entrepreneurship, offering high-speed internet, co-working spaces, training labs, and mentorship opportunities for young Nigerians.

“The digital park is a vital part of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which places digital innovation, youth empowerment, and inclusive growth at the heart of Nigeria’s journey to a $1 trillion economy,” said Dr. Tijani at the event.

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, expressed strong support for tech-driven development. “This aligns with our vision to build an enabling environment for innovation. We believe this facility will play a major role in nurturing talent and driving Ogun’s economic transformation,” he stated.

According to a report by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), sub-Saharan Africa will require about 230 million digital jobs by 2030. Still, the region is not producing enough skilled talent to meet this demand. In Nigeria alone, less than 20% of university graduates are considered employable in the tech sector due to a lack of practical digital training, according to a survey by GetBundi, a STEM and digital skills institute. The Innovation Park directly addresses this gap by providing training labs, mentorship, and apprenticeship programs tailored to digital skills.

Beyond infrastructure, the park is envisioned as a springboard for broader community development. It aims to empower youth with in-demand digital skills, turn promising ideas into viable businesses, and transform Abeokuta and surrounding areas into one of Africa’s next great tech clusters.
