BW Energy’s Gabon oil output rose 20% to 24,400 bpd
Production mainly from Dussafu offshore permit, company says
Revenue fell despite higher output due to lower oil prices
BW Energy's oil production in Gabon increased in 2025, according to operational results released on Wednesday by the Norway-based company.
Daily production averaged about 24,400 barrels per day (bpd), up from 20,400 bpd in 2024, an increase of around 20% year-on-year.
The production came mainly from the Dussafu offshore permit. BW Energy holds a 73.5% stake in the permit, alongside Panoro Energy with 17.5% and state-owned Gabon Oil Company (GOC), which holds the remainder. In the final quarter of 2025, net production attributable to BW Energy from its Gabon assets averaged about 22,400 bpd.
Gabon output was affected late in 2025 by cargo lifting schedules, with some volumes not marketed until early this year. This timing difference did not affect total production for the full year, the company said.
At the group level, net production reached 2.3 million barrels in the fourth quarter of 2025, averaging about 25,200 bpd. Higher output did not translate into higher revenue, which fell to $123.8 million from $233.5 million a year earlier, mainly due to lower oil prices.
BW Energy continues to develop its Gabon assets
The development comes as BW Energy steps up efforts to strengthen its oil production in Gabon. In early February 2025, the company said it planned to expand offshore activities by targeting new blocks near the Dussafu licence, citing geological continuity with existing fields and the presence of established infrastructure.
The strategy led to the announcement in March of an offshore crude discovery named Bourdon on the Dussafu licence. The exploration well was drilled to a total depth of more than 4,000 metres, the company said.
Bourdon is now under study ahead of a final investment decision (FID), a prerequisite for launching development work. The initiatives form part of the group’s growth strategy, with BW Energy targeting medium-term production of about 40,000 bpd, supported by its Gabon assets.
