Burkina Faso Bets on Local Cotton Processing to Expand Textile Industry

Burkina Faso has inaugurated the National Center for the Support of Cotton Artisanal Processing (CNATAC) in Bobo-Dioulasso, marking a major step in its strategy to add value to its cotton industry and promote local textile production.

The facility, inaugurated on Sunday, Nov. 9, aims to enhance local cotton transformation, boost the competitiveness of Burkina Faso’s textile products, and improve job creation within the sector.

The CNATAC project, valued at over CFA1.5 billion ($2.6 million), was financed through a partnership between the Burkinabe government and the Republic of Italy.

The new center features weaving, dyeing, and sewing workshops, as well as incubation and training spaces designed to help artisans, designers, and small producers develop new skills and expand their businesses.
