Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Sunday opened the EliTe Solar industrial complex in the Ain Sokhna industrial zone. The facility is located in the TEDA Egypt economic and trade cooperation zone, within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.

Construction began on Dec. 16, 2024, with a groundbreaking ceremony held by EliTe Solar, a Singapore-based photovoltaic panel manufacturer. The company said the site spans 78,000 square meters and is designed for a total manufacturing capacity of 5 GW.

The complex will include 2 GW of solar cell production capacity and 3 GW of solar module manufacturing capacity, with total investment estimated at $116 million.

At the ceremony, Waleid Gamal Eldien, chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone, said the project would boost domestic manufacturing and strengthen integration across Egypt’s solar supply chain, while supporting export growth.

The investment aligns with the zone’s industrial strategy to attract higher value-added manufacturing, particularly in energy and clean technology. It also comes as Egypt targets increasing renewables to 42% of its electricity mix by 2030.
