AngloGold’s Ghana Output Edges Down as Iduapriem Decline Offsets Obuasi Gains

AngloGold’s Ghana Output Edges Down as Iduapriem Decline Offsets Obuasi Gains
Friday, 14 November 2025 18:26
  • AngloGold’s Iduapriem output drops 20% to 149,000 oz in Jan-Sept 2025
  • Shutdown and lower ore grades blamed; Obuasi output rose but couldn’t offset
  • No updated guidance issued; merger with Gold Fields’ Tarkwa mine scrapped

Gold output at AngloGold Ashanti’s Iduapriem mine in Ghana fell 20 percent to 149,000 ounces in January-September 2025. The mine produced 187,000 ounces in the same period last year, the company’s financial report showed on Tuesday.

AngloGold said the decline was due to a temporary shutdown of the processing plant and lower ore grades. The drop reduced the company’s overall gold production in Ghana.

Output at the Obuasi mine rose 20 percent over the same period, but the increase was not enough to offset the fall at Iduapriem. Combined production from the two mines reached 343,000 ounces, compared with 348,000 ounces a year earlier, according to Ecofin Agency’s estimates.

The company did not issue production guidance for the rest of the year for either operation. Fourth-quarter results will determine full-year output for its Ghanaian mines. In 2024, Iduapriem produced 237,000 ounces of gold, and Obuasi produced 221,000 ounces.

The slowdown at Iduapriem comes after AngloGold Ashanti withdrew from a proposed merger with Gold Fields’ Tarkwa mine, a deal that would have created Africa’s largest gold operation. AngloGold said at the time that changes to its standalone mine plan for Iduapriem could unlock additional value, but did not provide details.
