DRC’s Bisie Tin Mine Beats 2025 Output Forecast Despite Security Disruptions

  • Bisie tin mine output rose 7% to 18,576 tonnes in 2025
  • Production beat guidance despite security disruptions in eastern DRC
  • Alphamin targets 20,000 tonnes in 2026 amid rising tin prices

Bisie, the Democratic Republic of Congo’s main industrial tin mine, produced 18,576 tonnes in 2025, Alphamin Resources said in an operational update published on Monday, Jan. 19, 2026. That was up 7% from 17,324 tonnes in 2024, the company said.

Alphamin credited improved operating performance at the site, citing an “exceptional” overall recovery rate. Output also exceeded the company’s revised guidance of 18,000-18,500 tonnes, capping a year marked by security disruptions that forced a temporary suspension of operations in March.

The stoppage followed the advance of rebel groups in eastern DRC, prompting Alphamin to cut its original 2025 target to 17,500 tonnes from 20,000 tonnes, before lifting guidance back above 18,000 tonnes in October.

For 2026, Alphamin is targeting 20,000 tonnes at Bisie, while monitoring the security situation. It reported a renewed uptick in security incidents in areas about 200 km from the mine.

Higher output in 2026 could be crucial as tin prices are expected to rise again. After a 10% increase in 2025, the World Bank forecasts prices will gain a further 3% in 2026. The mine’s performance will also be in focus for the DRC, which holds a 5% stake in the project and collects a 3.5% royalty on project revenues. Alphamin said it paid $106 million in taxes to the state in 2025.
