Congo's state-owned oil company, Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (SNPC), has placed digitalization at the center of its strategy for the next five years.
The company plans to modernize its internal control system by introducing new software. This move, according to General Manager Maixent Raoul Ominga, is designed to enhance the reliability and speed of closing operations, audits, and management control.
This digital transformation is a key lever for improving the company’s performance in a competitive environment and addressing challenges in the downstream oil sector, Ominga said in details shared by international media on Wednesday, Oct. 22. SNPC is also focusing on upgrading staff skills and better valuing the country's petroleum resources.
The oil and gas sector is critical to the Republic of Congo’s economy. According to the French Treasury and the World Bank, it accounts for 40-50% of the country’s GDP and approximately 80% of exports. The Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)’s figures also reveal that in 2022, extractive industries contributed nearly 71% of public revenues.
This reinforces the need for greater traceability. The digitalization drive is seen as a direct response to transparency, control, and operational management challenges that could affect public revenue collection.
