French engineering group Technip Energies said on Feb. 24 it had won a “significant contract” for the Coral Norte gas project in Mozambique. The project is being developed in the Area 4 block of the Rovuma Basin, off the coast of Cabo Delgado.
The company said in a press release published the same day that the contract covers engineering, equipment procurement and integration preparation work for the floating unit.
The award follows an initial agreement for preliminary work already under way on Coral Norte. Technip Energies will operate within a consortium comprising Japan’s JGC Corporation and South Korea’s Samsung Heavy Industries.
The company did not disclose the value of the contract. It said the award was granted by Mozambique Rovuma Venture (MRV), the joint venture responsible for developing the Area 4 block and owned by Italian operator Eni and its partners ExxonMobil and CNPC.
Coral Norte consists of a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) unit to be installed in the Rovuma Basin offshore Mozambique. The facility will be based on a concept similar to Coral Sul FLNG, which began production in 2022 on the same block.
In a separate press release published in January 2026, Technip Energies announced the launch of the Coral Norte FLNG hull at the Geoje shipyard in South Korea, a step ahead of the integration of the topside modules.
The Coral Norte project, the second phase of the Coral field development, has accelerated in recent months. After reaching a final investment decision (FID) in October 2025 approving a $7.2 billion project, the consortium launched construction of the floating unit. The facility is designed to produce 3.55 million tonnes of LNG per year, with start-up expected in 2028.
