Indian engineering group Angelique International Limited (AIL) has announced plans to build an undisclosed brand tractor-assembly plant in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The company revealed the project on 24 July during a meeting with DRC Industry Minister Louis Watum Kabamba.
Devang Akbari, AIL’s representative, said both sides examined technical parameters and that AIL is now finalising a comprehensive technical-financial proposal for submission. According to Akbari, Minister Kabamba provided clear guidance on the next steps; relevant ministries will conduct a technical review before any definitive agreement is signed.
Founded in 1997, AIL specialises in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) and already operates tractor- and farm-equipment assembly plants in Benin, Chad, Sierra Leone, Togo, Cameroon and South Sudan. In the DRC the group is best known for its energy work: it led the design, turbine installation and plant construction for Phase I of the Kakobola hydro scheme, a project that started in 2011, stalled, and resumed in 2020. The final phase now centres on power transmission and distribution.
Separately, on 23 July AIL signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Electrification Agency (ANSER) to build a 26.8 MW hydroelectric plant, underscoring its expanding footprint in Congolese infrastructure.
