Tunisia renovates 30% of schools, builds 13 new facilities
Edunet 10 connects schools to internet, upgrades digital access
$135M plan to expand, modernize infrastructure amid rising enrollment
Tunisia’s Minister of Education, Noureddine Nouri, announced on November 3 that 30% of public schools have undergone renovation and maintenance. He added that 13 new schools have been built as part of efforts to modernize the country’s education infrastructure.
These initiatives are part of the Edunet 10 program, which has connected most schools to high-speed internet. According to the minister, schools have also been equipped with new computers to upgrade labs and specialized classrooms. The project, he said, aims to narrow regional gaps and give all students equal access to quality education.
In October, during a plenary session with National Council of Regions and Districts President Imed Derbali, Nouri outlined the 2026-2030 strategic plan. He said 400 million dinars ($135.14 million) will be allocated to build 17 new schools (8 primary, 7 secondary, and 1 high school), rehabilitate 325 facilities, construct 106 boundary fences, and install 71 prefabricated classrooms.
The initiative comes amid a steady rise in student enrollment, with more than 2.35 million students registered in primary and secondary schools for the 2024-2025 academic year, a 2% increase over the previous year, according to the Ministry of Education.
DataReportal’s Digital 2025 report shows that 84.9% of Tunisians use the internet. Yet only 30% of rural households have access, compared to 70% in urban areas, underscoring the need for fair access to infrastructure and digital resources to prepare youth for future challenges.
