• Conakry airport records 446,335 passengers in H1 2025, up 20%
• Growth driven by mining projects, more international flights
• Expansion underway to boost capacity beyond 500,000 annual passengers

The number of passengers passing through Conakry's airport reached 446,335 in the first half of 2025, up from 371,378 during the same period in 2024, according to the latest figures from the Conakry Airport Management Company (SOGEAC). January saw the highest traffic in the first quarter with 72,289 travelers, compared to 64,025 in January 2024. In the second quarter, June recorded the most significant flow with 86,722 passengers, up from 73,079 a year earlier.

According to SOGEAC, this increase is due to "Guinea's growing international openness, the increased frequency of airline flights, and the rise of major mining projects, particularly Simandou, which is attracting professionals and investors from around the world."

In 2024, the airport handled 788,879 passengers, an increase from 742,123 the previous year. These numbers exceed the facility's initial capacity of 500,000 passengers per year. Expansion work is underway and includes the construction of a 32,000-square-meter passenger terminal, a 3,600-square-meter cargo terminal, a new control tower, administrative buildings, a fire station, a presidential pavilion, a power plant, internal roads, and a hotel complex.

This flagship project is part of a broader vision by the Guinean government to transform the air transport industry. The strategy also includes the rehabilitation of secondary airfields to support domestic traffic and the relaunch of the state-owned airline.
