(FEZ–MEKNES REGION) - As AFCON 2025 approaches: the Fez-Meknes region is emerging as one of Morocco’s most strategic tourism hubs, offering strong commercial prospects for African travel agencies.

The expected influx of supporters, particularly from West Africa due to Nigeria’s three group-stage matches in Fez, is creating growing demand for structured travel products that combine mobility, accommodation, culture and premium services.

A favorable context for regional tourism growth

For travel operators, the AFCON period represents a rare acceleration point. Fez-Meknes concentrates cultural, natural and logistical assets that can be integrated into high-value tourism products aligned with current market demand.

Tourism clusters that strengthen package design

  1. Fez: Core urban and cultural hub

As the logistical center of the region, Fez offers a UNESCO-listed medina, structured artisan districts and close proximity to the stadium, facilitating short, modular or multi-day stays for supporters.

  1. Meknes and Volubilis: Heritage cluster

This combined cultural offering enhances the value of premium packages:

  • Meknes, an imperial city, provides high-visibility heritage sites and traditional markets.
  • Volubilis is one of North Africa’s most important Roman archaeological sites.
  1. Ifrane and Azrou: Nature and leisure Cluster
  • Ifrane, known for its mild climate and mountain setting, attracts nature-oriented travelers.
  • Azrou complements this with cedar forests, mountain trails and wildlife sightings. Together, they support eco-tourism and outdoor-oriented excursions.
  1. Sefrou: Craft and cultural Extension

Located near Fez, Sefrou enables short excursions centered on local craftsmanship, medina visits and heritage workshops, ideal for high-rotation travel packages.

  1. Taza and Tazekka National Park: Adventure cluster

With Bouiblane Mountain, the Friouato Cave and forest ecosystems, this cluster appeals to niche markets interested in hiking, caving and adventure tourism.

  1. Moulay Yacoub: Wellness and thermal tourism

Its established thermal facilities allow agencies to add wellness modules, increasingly in demand among international visitors.

A strong business case for African travel agencies

The organisational setup of AFCON in Fez enables agencies to develop integrated, high-margin packages combining:

  • Match tickets
  • Transport and accommodation
  • Curated cultural tours
  • Nature and wellness excursions
  • Gastronomy and artisan experiences
  • Guided premium services

Such products respond to a rising appetite across African markets for turnkey travel solutions during major sporting events.

Outlook

By leveraging AFCON 2025 visibility, Fez-Meknes can consolidate its position as a regional tourism hub. For African travel agencies, the tournament provides an opportunity to secure first-mover advantages, expand B2B networks and capture new customer segments while contributing to sustainable tourism development in one of Morocco’s most diversified destinations.
