Djibouti to host the 13th FIGE International Colloquium: Public Governance and Technological Innovation
Monday, 02 February 2026 13:32

(REPUBLIQUE DE DJIBOUTI) - Under the High Patronage of His Excellency Mr Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti, the General State Inspectorate of the Republic of Djibouti will host, from 3 to 5 February 2026, the proceedings of the 16th meeting of the Steering Committee and the 13th International Colloquium of the Forum of African General State Inspectorates and Related Institutions (FIGE).

These events will be held alongside the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the Forum of African General State Inspectorates, founded in Djibouti in 2006 and headquartered in the Djiboutian capital.

FIGE currently brings together 27 institutions from across the African continent. This pan-African organisation works to strengthen the capacities of General State Inspectorates in the areas of auditing, investigations, public policy evaluation, anti-corruption efforts, and the promotion of good practices and professional standards aligned with the contemporary requirements of African states.

This 13th International Colloquium will focus on digital transformation and will be held under the theme: “New Digital and Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Support of Supreme Audit Institutions, the Fight Against Corruption, and Good Governance.”

As independent supreme audit and oversight bodies, General State Inspectorates represent a key strategic lever to strengthen good governance, optimise the use of public resources, prevent illicit practices, and promote a culture of performance and accountability within African public administrations.

These bodies must take into account the major developments driven by new artificial intelligence (AI) tools, digital technologies, and big data collection and processing. These technological disruptions are impacting all contemporary societies. They should also contribute to improving the quality of the missions carried out by General State Inspectorates and the management of public affairs.

The official opening ceremony of the International Colloquium will be held under the auspices of His Excellency Mr Ismaïl Omar Guelleh, President of the Republic of Djibouti. On this occasion, His Excellency Mr Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire, and His Excellency Mr Bassirou Diomaye Faye, President of the Republic of Senegal, will deliver remote addresses.

More than 80 delegates, international experts, public decision-makers, heads of oversight institutions, auditors, researchers and practitioners from Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia will then gather over two days to exchange, debate and share best practices in innovation, governance and the performance of public oversight.

These discussions will lead to strategic reflections, practical feedback and operational perspectives aimed at strengthening the action of oversight institutions in the service of African states and citizens.
