Ethiopia, Azerbaijan Expand Bilateral Cooperation with Defense and Agriculture Deals

Ethiopia and Azerbaijan signed several agreements to strengthen bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors. The two countries signed conventions covering defense and agriculture. They also signed agreements targeting anti-corruption efforts, investment promotion and media cooperation between their respective public broadcasting companies.

In addition, the two governments signed a memorandum of understanding establishing a partnership framework for the organization of COP32.

These commitments form part of a broader strategy to gradually reinforce relations between Addis Ababa and Baku. Both governments have sustained diplomatic dialogue and have continued to expand the scope of their partnership.

The two countries also cooperate in the aviation sector. They support the development of free zones and industrial parks as part of their economic collaboration agenda.

Trade data reflect early signs of growth in bilateral exchanges. The International Trade Center (ITC) reported that Azerbaijan’s imports from Ethiopia increased from $181,000 in 2022 to $534,000 in 2024. This increase highlights the growth potential of trade flows, which the newly signed agreements could further stimulate.
