  • Remittances became Egypt’s third-largest source of foreign currency in 2024, after exports and foreign direct investment.
  • Egypt counts an estimated 14 million expatriates, mainly in the Gulf, North America, and Western Europe.

Financial transfers from Egyptians living abroad reached $37.5 billion during the first eleven months of 2025. The Central Bank of Egypt published the data on Monday, January 5. The figure represented a 42% increase compared with the same period in 2024. In November alone, remittances totaled $3.6 billion, marking a 39.9% year-on-year rise.

In 2024, remittances from Egyptians abroad reached $29.6 billion, reflecting a 51.3% increase compared with 2023. As a result, these inflows became the third-largest source of foreign currency for Egypt, after export revenues and foreign direct investment.
