Nexus Core Systems, a company specializing in artificial intelligence infrastructure, graphics processing units (GPUs) and machine learning, signed a memorandum of understanding with Moroccan authorities on Wednesday to build an AI factory worth an estimated 12 billion Moroccan dirhams ($1.28 billion).
The agreement was signed between Nexus Core Systems, the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, the Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Public Policy Evaluation, and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE), during the GITEX Africa 2026 technology conference, held from April 7 to 9 in Marrakech. The deal marks the start of the first phase of the “Nexus AI Factory Platform” project.
The facility will combine a high-performance computing (HPC) data center, a center focused on training and knowledge transfer, and an innovation hub aimed at developing next-generation solutions, according to a statement from Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition.
The project, which is expected to create 125 direct jobs by 2027, will be implemented in two phases. The first phase involves an investment of 5 billion dirhams to build a hub with a capacity of 16 megawatts (MW) in the Nouaceur region.
The project supports Morocco’s “Digital 2030” strategy, which aims to increase the digital economy’s share of gross domestic product to 5%. Launched in 2024, the strategy targets the creation of 270,000 jobs, the development of 3,000 startups and the digitization of public services.
In the second phase, Nexus Core Systems will invest an additional 7 billion dirhams at a separate site, adding 20 MW of capacity.
“The launch of the Nexus AI Factory Platform contributes to the development of digital infrastructure and strengthens Morocco’s capabilities in digital technology and artificial intelligence,” said Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Morocco’s minister of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, in the statement.
“Morocco offers a combination of political stability, forward-looking leadership and strong talent. With the Nexus AI Factory, we are not only deploying high-performance infrastructure; we are building an integrated ecosystem that includes a Center of Excellence, which will support our global operations from Morocco, and a dynamic innovation hub,” said Jaap Zuiderveld, chief executive of Nexus Core Systems.
Founded in partnership with Lloyds Capital in 2025, Nexus Core Systems plans to develop several AI factories optimized for high-demand workloads worldwide. The London-based company relies primarily on advanced technologies from U.S. tech giant Nvidia and South Korea’s Naver Cloud.
