  • Government establishes UTSTD to oversee climate taxonomy implementation
  • Framework aims to direct financing toward low-carbon and sustainable projects
  • Initiative seeks to limit greenwashing risks and strengthen transparency

Côte d’Ivoire has launched a new unit dedicated to monitoring climate taxonomy and disclosure, according to a government statement published on April 13.

The authorities have established the Unité de travail chargée du suivi de la taxonomie et de la divulgation (UTSTD) under the Commission nationale de lutte contre les changements climatiques (CNLCC). The unit will oversee the rollout and implementation of the national climate taxonomy framework.

The government designed the mechanism to regulate the deployment of climate taxonomy. The framework identifies and classifies economic activities based on their contribution to the low-carbon transition.

In addition, the system will facilitate the allocation of financing toward sustainable projects. At the same time, it will help limit greenwashing risks by improving transparency and standardization in climate-related disclosures.
