World Bank Resumes Uganda Funding with $2 Billion Package

Uganda will receive $2 billion in new funding from the World Bank over the next three fiscal years, Finance Minister Ramathan Ggoobi said on Monday, Oct. 20, 2025.

 The funds will support projects in road infrastructure, energy, agriculture, water, education, and social protection.

The new financing will raise the World Bank’s total investment in Uganda to more than $6.9 billion, up from $4.9 billion currently.

The World Bank suspended funding to Uganda in 2023 after the country passed an anti-LGBT law and resumed support in 2025 following policy commitments by the government.

Separately, Uganda is holding talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on a new Extended Credit Facility (ECF) to be agreed after the upcoming elections. The program will prioritize higher domestic revenue collection, greater fiscal transparency, and a stronger financial sector.
