MTN Group, the University of Johannesburg (UJ), and The African Editors Forum (TAEF) have launched the Pan-African Media Innovation Program (MIP), aimed at equipping journalists with digital, entrepreneurial, and policy-reporting skills.
The 12-week certified curriculum, announced September 12, blends online modules with in-person training in Johannesburg and a two-week placement with an MTN partner company. Fellows will study digital transformation, sustainability of independent media, ethics, entrepreneurship, and the impact of emerging technologies.
The program expands on the MTN Media Innovation Program introduced in Nigeria in 2022 and now covers all 16 MTN markets. Organizers say it will help strengthen African journalism at a time of growing disinformation and fragile media business models.
The first cohort will begin in 2026.
