Ghana and Israel have deepened their partnership to transform Ghana’s education system using Israeli technology and innovation. The Ghana News Agency (GNA) confirmed this on Tuesday, July 22.
Israel’s embassy in Ghana leads the initiative through its Economic Department. The goal is to support Ghana’s push for digital transformation in education using Israeli EdTech tools.
Roey Gilad, Israel’s ambassador to Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, said the program reflects Israel’s commitment to mutual development through technology and innovation.
Gilad told GNA that the collaboration does not aim to simply address shortcomings in Ghana's education system, but rather to create a reciprocal partnership where both countries exchange ideas, share innovative solutions, and learn from each other.
For years, Israel has supported Ghana’s education reforms through MASHAV, its international development cooperation agency. Since 2013, MASHAV has trained Ghanaian professionals in education, early childhood development, and digital technology.
Under the “Education for Digital Innovation” project, several Ghanaian secondary schools have recently received computer labs to enhance tech-based learning.
While Ghana has a 69.9% internet penetration rate, over 30% of the population still lacks access, especially in rural areas. Many rural schools remain poorly equipped, creating gaps in digital learning opportunities.
This partnership aligns with the broader vision launched under former President John Dramani Mahama. His administration pushed for equal access to quality education, regardless of location.
