  • Agreement targets joint tech, green energy, and investment projects
  • Bilateral trade hit $3.1B in 2024, up from $2.2B in 2023

Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Maxime Prévot and Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita signed an agreement to strengthen bilateral cooperation in several key areas, the Belgian government said in a statement on Thursday.

The deal establishes a comprehensive security dialogue, updates judicial cooperation, and reinforces migration partnerships to simplify readmission procedures.

Both sides highlighted plans to deepen ties through the joint development of technological value chains and the promotion of sustainable investment in strategic sectors such as green hydrogen, energy, infrastructure, and innovation.

"This agreement demonstrates the trust and maturity of our relationship with Morocco. Together, we are opting for a responsible and respectful approach to better address our common challenges in security, justice, and migration. This is an important step towards more effective cooperation," Prévot said.

Belgian Interior and Security Minister Bernard Quintin said relations between Rabat and Brussels are among the region’s most wide-ranging, spanning numerous sectors. He estimated the Moroccan community in Belgium at more than 800,000 people.

According to the International Trade Center, trade between Belgium and Morocco rose in 2024 to $3.1 billion, up from $2.2 billion in 2023. Key traded goods include copper, fuels, vehicles, textiles, chemicals, machinery, and clothing.
