Chinese group Sunrise, through its new subsidiary Euwen Textiles, began construction of a textile factory in the Bensouda industrial zone in Fez, Morroco. According to information reported yesterday by local daily Media 24, the project represents an investment of 1.4 billion dirhams, or about $154 million, and is expected to enter service in the third quarter of 2026.
The Euwen Textiles industrial unit is designed to integrate the entire textile and apparel value chain, from yarn and fabric production to weaving, dyeing, textile printing, and garment manufacturing.
Planned over an area of 20 hectares, the facility will have an annual production capacity of 248,000 spindles for spinning, 21,600 tons of knitted fabric, and 54 million meters of woven fabric. This output will support the manufacture of between 41 million and 50 million garments per year.
A $252mln investment plan
The Fez plant is part of a broader 2.3 billion dirhams investment program, equivalent to about $252.2 million, that Sunrise plans to deploy in Morocco’s textile industry. Under this plan, a second textile factory is scheduled to be built in the city of Skhirat, although details on this unit have not yet been disclosed.
According to project officials, the choice of Fez and Skhirat is based on specific logistical and industrial criteria, including recognized local expertise and modern infrastructure suited to the group’s needs. More broadly, Sunrise’s planned investment is expected to support and strengthen Morocco’s textile production capacity, which is largely export-oriented.
Data from the Ministry of Industry and Trade show that exports accounted for 67.5% of revenue generated by Morocco’s textile and leather industry in 2024. Figures published in the 2025 edition of the Moroccan Industry Barometer indicate that sector revenue reached 67.8 billion dirhams in 2024.
That year, the textile and leather industry ranked as Morocco’s second-largest industrial employer after the automotive sector, accounting for 23.7% of total industrial jobs. The commissioning of the new plants is expected to reinforce this position, with Sunrise projecting the creation of 7,000 direct jobs across its two units.
