Togo's Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI-Togo) is advocating for International Monetary Fund financing to be better directed toward the private sector, the chamber said on Wednesday.
The issue was discussed at length in Lomé during a meeting between José Syménouh, president of CCI-Togo, and Racheeda Boukezia, the IMF's resident representative for Togo.
The two delegations reviewed projects led by the chamber, which align with public policies on economic development, job creation, and business support. The IMF representation's objective is to evaluate these initiatives to define a strategy for providing greater support to the national economy.
According to the president of CCI-Togo, increased support for the private sector would play a decisive role in the country's economic stability and development. The two parties plan to increase exchanges to strengthen this support for the national economy and assist CCI-Togo in implementing its projects for the coming years.
The IMF already provides multifaceted support to Togo. Since March 2024, the country has benefited from a 42-month program approved under the Extended Credit Facility, with a total amount of 293.6 million Special Drawing Rights, or approximately $400 million. This program aims to support the implementation of structural reforms and appropriate macroeconomic policies designed to ensure fiscal stability, promote inclusive growth, and strengthen the resilience of Togo's economy.
