Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, signed a memorandum of understanding with Schneider Electric Egypt on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026.
The agreement aims to support climate action and speed up the transition to a green economy, as part of efforts to strengthen partnerships with the private sector.
The partnership, which will run from 2026 to 2029, will see Schneider Electric provide integrated solutions to promote climate-resilient sustainable agriculture, support smallholder farmers and enhance food security.
The agreement falls under Egypt’s "NWFE" national platform for green projects, specifically within the Water-Food-Energy Nexus.
Al-Mashat said the partnership reflects the state’s commitment to strengthening development cooperation with the private sector and international institutions. She said the goal is to support sustainable rural development, reinforce food security and help smallholder farmers better adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Climate challenges in Egypt
Egypt is among the countries most exposed to climate change. It faces more extreme temperature fluctuations, rising sea levels that threaten coastal areas, and accelerating desertification. These challenges are contributing to declining agricultural production and worsening water shortages.
In its national strategy to tackle climate change, Egypt aims to strengthen its adaptation capacity and increase the share of renewable and alternative energy in its energy mix. It also plans measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in order to protect citizens.
Schneider Electric is leading several major initiatives in Egypt, including the launch in February 2024 of a project to build 1,000 housing units equipped with smart solutions designed to help reduce emissions. The partnership will rely on advanced technologies, including solar energy and Internet of Things (IoT) solutions, to optimize operational efficiency and improve the sustainability of resources.
