(Ecofin Agency) - Despite risks of attacks by Boko Haram, the government of Nigeria has announced plans to resume oil exploration in the Lake Chad Basin area within six weeks, in the Northern part of the country. This was disclosed on Monday by Saidu Mohammed, chief executive officer in charge of gas and power at the NNPC.

“We are in the [Borno] state to inform you that in the next six weeks, we are going to redeploy our team of experts back to Maidiguri to resume oil exploration with better technology in the Lake Chad Basin,” Saidu Mohammed said. He stressed that the move is necessary and falls in line with president Buhari’s goal to revive recession-hit Nigerian economy.

Regarding the Boko Haram threat, the Nigerian army assures that the terrorists group has been defeated and can no more launch major attacks beside minor suicide bombings. An opinion which is not shared by all.
