(Ecofin Agency) - On Wednesday 16, 2018, the British oil company Savannah Petroleum announced that it discovered a new oil deposit at Agadem basin, in Niger, on the PSC R3 / R4 block. The deposit located in Eridal-1 well constitutes the fourth deposit discovered by Savannah in this basin.
Let’s remind that according to the initial agreement with Great Wall Drilling Company Niger, the oilfield service provider, the Savannah should dig only three walls. But, it was agreed that in case of a successful completion of these wells, the two parties could decide to dig a fourth, Eridal-1 in this case.
According to the preliminary results, the well "encountered 13.6 m of net oil-bearing reservoir sandstones in the E1 reservoir unit within the primary Eocene Sokor Alternances objective" after having dug 2,542 meters down. The British company further indicated that these results were in line with its expectations.
It is worth noting that the drilling took 14 days and, following the positive outcomes on the four wells drilled to date in the R3 block, Savannah chose to exercise the second of its options under the agreement with Great Wall Drilling Company Niger.
The GW 215 rig will, therefore, be mobilized for the Zomo-1 well, located on the R3 part of the PSC R3 / R4, 12 km from Eridal-1. Having exercised that option, Savannah will still evaluate its options for four additional wells.
