Algeria will not stop its gas supply to Morocco

Thursday, 27 September 2018 20:18

(Ecofin Agency) - Algeria will not stop supplying natural gas to Morocco. This is the brief of a press conference held by the country’s public oil company’s managing director Abdelmoumen Ould Kaddour (photo), in the framework of the publication of a paper on OPEC'S perspectives by 2040.

According to the official, this rumor that has been circulating for days now was sparked by a misunderstanding between some parties following Algeria’s announcement that it will increase the capacity of Medgaz, a pipeline that goes through Morocco to Spain. Some unidentified sources then published that the offer destined to Morocco would be sent to Spain.

“Why would we reduce or stop our supply to Morocco ?”, the official questioned, according to statements quoted by the Middle East Monitor. He then explained that it is of Sonatrach's (Algeria’s public oil company) interest to preserve the gas flow through this pipeline to increase its exports capacities.
