(Ecofin Agency) - Chinese firm China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) has been
appointed to Kaduna develop a new 50,000 bpd refinery in Kaduna. This was
revealed by the Refinery Consortium subsequent to a visit in
China last week.
A memorandum of understanding for the project was signed by Malam
Nasir El-Rufai, governor of Kaduna and representing the Kaduna
Refinery Consortium, and Li Minggiang for CMEC.
Commenting the signing of related MoU, the governor, said: “The
selection of CMEC means that our plan for a greenfield refinery in
Kaduna is gathering pace. The project includes laying an associated
400km pipeline from the border of Niger Republic to Kaduna to transfer
crude oil to the proposed refinery. Project goals also include the
construction of an 80-100 MW power plant adjacent to the refinery.”
The new refinery project is sponsored by the Kaduna Refinery
Consortium which consists of Kaduna State, DGE/CCEGC and Tianji.
