Ghana has launched the commencement of a $7 billion offshore Cape Three Points integrated oil and gas project at Sanzuley in the Ellembelle District.
This project to be carried out by Eni and Vitol Energy will include the development of the Sankofa and Gye Nyame fields to provide gas to feed Ghana’s thermal power plants for about twenty years.
The Gas project will also produce non associated gas of about 108 cf/d for the period of twenty years and has the ability to generate about 1000 MW of electricity daily.
Output from the offshore cape three points will commence in 2017 and is valued at 80,000 bpd. However, first gas flow from the project is expected in 2018.
The gas receiving facilities will be situated in Sanzuley and connected to the Ghana Gas pipeline so as to supply gas to the Aboadze and Tema power plants, the Business and Financial Times reports.
According to the Managing Director of Eni Ghana, Fabio Cavanna, around two thousand jobs will be created as operations begins.
The Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) Integrated Oil and Gas Project comprises of the joint development of the Sankofa Main, Sankofa East, Gye Nyame, Sankofa East Cenomanian and Sankofa East Campanian fields.
The fields are situated in the OCTP block in the Tano Basin, at water depths from 600m to 1,000m and about 60km off the coast of Ghana. The fields covers an area of about 694km².
Eni Ghana Exploration and Production operates the block with 47.22% interest alongside Vitol Upstream Ghana with 37.78% interest and Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) with a 15% interest and an option to increase its interest to 20%.
