Tullow Oil on Wednesday announced that production has recommenced at its offshore Jubilee field in Ghana, pumping 30,000 bpd.
Production from the field was delayed at the start of this year as a result of a technical problem involving a damaged turret bearing.
According to the Managing Director of Tullow Oil in Ghana, Charles Darku (photo), the company is making plans for three possible fixes for the damage and will arrive at a decision on which one to pursue by the middle of this year. “We have started production. As of today we are hitting 30,000 barrels per day," Darku said.
In 2015, the Jubilee field produced an average of 103,000 bpd. The company last month said it will have to cut its forecast as a result of the technical fault which had brought about the closure of the field.
Tullow's chief operating officer, Paul McDade, has said that he had planned to outshine the former 103,000 bpd production levels once the technical problem has been resolved.
“When we have resolved the problem with the turret we would like to get back up to those levels (103,000 bpd) and move up towards 120,000 (bpd),” McDade told Reuters.
