Nigeria’s Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Warri refineries have reached a joint regular production of more than 6.76 million litres of petrol a day, the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) revealed.
Domestic petrol refining is estimated to rise to more than 10 million litres a day by the end of January, the corporation’s Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Ohi Alegbe said in a statement. He noted that the Port Harcourt Refinery which resumed operations last week produces 4.09 million litres, the Kaduna Refinery adds 1.29 million litres while the Warri refinery which began operations on Sunday produces 1.38 million litres.
NNPC is however confident that the refineries which are currently operating at favorable percentage will help ease the fuel supply and distribution tension in the country.
Meanwhile the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari on Monday announced that he is going to set up an inter-ministerial committee to accelerate the re-organization and restructuring of NNPC.
Speaking during a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer, International Finance Corporation (IFC), Jin-Yong Cai, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, he noted that the restructuring of the corporation has become unavoidable considering the immense corruption and abuse of its current structure, the Nations reports.
