In Ghana, the Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) has commenced operations ahead of the planned April 2016 target.
TOR was shut down in April 2015 as a result of a major fault in the regenerative unit located in the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking (RFCC) plant, high arrears and the inability to acquire letters of credits.
Situated in Tema about 24 km east of Accra, the refinery currently received 3 million BO to feed the Crude Distillation Unit which produces 45,000 bopd.
According to Business and Financial Times, minor works on the refinery were carried out on the plant prior to the commencement of operations. The first barge of 1 million BO is presently being discharged at the Tema port, while the second barge of 2 million BO will be discharged in March.
Every year, Ghana’s economy uses 2,000,000 tons of refined petroleum products. The refinery's output decreases the cost of petroleum products imported into the country.
