In the Republic of Sudan, the Sudanese Ambassador to Russia, Nadir Babiker, has announced that the country is planning to boost oil output to 200,000 bbls/d in spite of the decline in prices globally.
The country blames the 150,000 bbls/d decrease in production on the loss of the southern oilfield.
According to Babiker, Sudan imports petroleum products like gasoline to meet the needs of its agricultural industry.
"Actually, we are planning to expand, although the prices are going down," he said.
He added that Sudan plans to offer its Red Sea area to investors for extraction and exploration.
The country anticipates a boost of about 5,000 bbl/d from a new oilfield situated in its southern White Nile State.
Sudan and Russia due to their strong economic and political partnership, recently agreed on an unspecified number of contracts which includes agreements for geological mapping to extract Sudan’s resources, Sputnik news reports.
