Ghana’s gas output will multiply by 2019 - GPC

Friday, 22 April 2016 14:39

The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana's Petroleum Commission (GPC), Theo Ahwireng, has said that by 2019, Ghana's gas output will increase. According to him, gas production will reach 300 million Mmscf/d, while oil production will reach between 180,000 and 200,000 bpd. He said the rise will be possible through the commencement of gas production from new fields being developed.

Ahwireng added that Tullow’s Tweneboa-Enyenra-Ntomme (TEN) field, Kosmos Energy’s Mahogany-Teak-Akasa (MTA) field as well as Eni and Vitol’s Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) are fields that would assist in boosting oil and gas production volumes in Ghana.

Five years down the line, Jubilee will move from the current phase two (Greater Jubilee) developments to Jubilee Full Filed development to increase the yield of Ghana’s premier oil and gas field,” Ahwireng said.

Production from the Jubilee field, has been currently been postponed as the turret bearing on production vessel FPSO Kwame Nkrumah was damaged and is at present going through renovation.

This has also hindered the supply of natural gas to the Atuabo gas processing plant for use by the country’s thermal plants as the gas supply from Nigeria has decreased to around 10% of the volume stipulated in the contract, News Ghana reports.
