(Ecofin Agency) - The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gas Company, has revealed plans to acquire extra compressor that will serve as backup so as to avoid a shutdown of the plant each and every time there is obligatory maintenance work.
“By the end of this year, we would have procured the second compressor and that will enable us to work without stopping work every 4,000 hours operation of the plant. It will take nine months to install the processor if it is procured. The drawings have been finalized and we’ve even started with the procurement,” George Sipa Yankey, CEO of Ghana Gas said.
He added that measures are already in place to acquire an extra compressor to serve as a backup which will certify the regular supply of gas in Ghana.
The Atuabo Gas processing plant currently, operates on one compressor causing the shutdown of the plant when it is time for mandatory maintenance work, thereby making it a major challenge to the authorities of Ghana Gas Company.
According to Business and Financial Times, the processing plant was closed on January 15, 2016 for the commencement of maintenance work as it has been working for over 8,000 hours since 2015. The maintenance work however, was supposed to last for 14 days but engineers were able to complete the work in five days, as it is the second since the commencement of lean gas production.
