GE Oil & Gas’ Takoradi service facility being constructed in Ghana is almost complete as the first two subsea trees for the Offshore Cape Three Points (OCTP) development is expected to be received at the facility in September.
The Takoradi facility, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of this month, is part of the company’s measures in support Ghana’s energy production.Aside producing oil for export, the project will also supply gas for power generation in Ghana.
The offshore fields are situated in the OCTP block in the Tano Basin, at water depths from 600m to 1,000m and about 60km off the coast of Ghana with estimated reserves of 1.5tcf of gas and 500m barrels of oil.The OCTP block is a large integrated oil and gas venture operated by Eni Ghana, alongside its partners Vitol and the Ghana National Petroleum Company (GNPC).
GE’s participation in the development of OCTP will assist in ensuring that the country has the technical skills and infrastructure and also the capacity required for the successful development of the area, as extracting resources from thousands of meters deep underwater, requires key machinery, specialized technology, and a highly skilled workforce, Petroleum Africa reports.
