Mauritius’s economy should expand by 3.8% in 2017, against 3.5% in 2016. This was announced last Thursday by the National Statistics Institute of the country. The performance will mainly, according to the office, be driven by a boost in the manufacturing and construction sectors.
According to the agency’s forecast, manufacturing production in Mauritius should rise 1.1% this year, in opposition to a negative performance (-0.1%) in 2016. The growth will be spurred by the textile and agro-food industries. In the same manner, the construction sector is expected to grow by 7% in 2017 while it stagnated last year. Here, the increase might partly be due to a boost in both public and private investments.
Let’s recall that the nation also expects its tourism revenues which are the third largest pillar of the economy beside agriculture and financial services to soar 3.8%.
