Gabon being unable to organize the legislative elections as it was supposed to do by April 30, 2018, the Senate will take over and represent the national assembly. This was announced by Marie-Madeleine Mborantsuo (photo), president of the constitutional court according to a statement published by AFP.
“The national assembly is deprived of its power upon notification of the present decision to public authorities, the president of the national assembly comprised. To ensure the effective functioning of public institutions, the legislative power will be replaced by the Senate”, she said. According to members of the opposition party, this is a good decision. They also expect president Bongo’s view on it.
“Let’s note that the government has been unable to accomplish the missions it was entrusted, namely, review of the electoral list since 2017 and the establishment of Gabon’s election center since January 2018”, she told AFP.
