Côte d’Ivoire: Government to invest $7.2 billion in the education sector, in 2018-20

Monday, 05 February 2018 17:30

Côte d’Ivoire plans to invest CFA3,805.4 billion (about $7.2 billion) in the education sector between 2018 and 2020, the Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly (picture) revealed.

“Over 2018-2020, the budget allocated to the education sector is CFA3, 8054 billion. So, Côte d’Ivoire deserves to be supported by its partners,” he said during the 3rd Global Partnership for Education (GPE) Funding Conference held on Feb. 2, in Dakar.

He further stressed that in 2016, “Côte d’Ivoire dedicated 27% of its budget to the education, and the sector accounted for 41.8% of public expenditures, debt excluded”.

The above-mentioned conference’s main objective was to mobilize $3.1 billion from funders for 2018-20 to support education of 870 children in 89 developing countries where 78% of the global out-of-school children are concentrated.

The conference also aimed to encourage developing countries to increase their investment in the education sector to 20% of the budget.
