According to the National Tourism Office of Tunisia, the number of tourists’ arrivals in the country, between January and May 2017, soared 46.2% as compared to the year before over the same period. The figure thus stood at 1,527,891 over the period reviewed.
The surge is mainly due to an increase of 60.2% to 1,148,037 of the number of Maghrebian tourists from January to May 2017, as compared to the first five months of 2016.
In this regards, Algerians visited the country the most over the period reviewed with 628,350 tourists. As for European tourists, they contributed 17% only of total arrivals, from January to May, amid terrorism threats which brought about restrictions on travels to Tunisia.
