Senegal: Government to upgrade land governance system, with the Dashboard

Wednesday, 06 June 2018 16:05

The Senegalese government wants to improve the country’s land governance system by testing the Dashboard, a new land indicator monitoring tool conceived by the International Land Coalition (ILC).

According to Commodafrica, which reported the news, “the Dashboard is a monitoring tool designed by the International Land Coalition (ILC) to collect people-centered data on land governance. Currently, it is comprised of 36 common core indicators that are organized according to the ten ILC Commitments and, as such, cover a wide range of issues related to land governance. These include secure tenure rights security, equal land rights for women, locally-managed ecosystems, and protection of land rights defenders. There are three kinds of indicators per commitment: a legal indicator, an implementation indicator and the final indicator”.

Moreover,  Initiative prospective agricole et rurale (IPAR), the think tank charged to implement the ICL’s tool said that “Senegal has been chosen for various reasons such as the presence of a dynamic, operational and productive multi-players platform, but also the country’s stability which allows the development of a data ecosystem”.

Actually, three countries have been chosen as pilot including, in addition to Senegal, Colombia and Nepal. If the piloting is successful, the Dashboard will then be deployed in about 40 countries, and even, all around the world where ILC is active.
