Launched in 2012, the land deeds digitization operation helped dematerialize a total of 3,605 titles dating from the colonial period and located across six wilayas in the West of Algeria. This was revealed by the archive office of the Oran wilaya.
“Since this operation was launched in 2012, led by the Oran wilaya, 3,605 land titles dating from the colonial period and situated in the Oran, Mascara, Mostaganem, Ain Témouchent, Relizane and Tlemcen wilayas, have been dematerialized,” Mohamed Tilouine, head of archive office at Oran, told Algérie Presse Service.
“He explained that the project to digitize land archives is of major importance as it aims to enable populations rapidly secure title, and meet their demands as well as administration’s”, the press agency indicates.
Digitization continues and should lead to a complete dematerialization of land directories of the concerned wilayas. These contain 4,000 registers dating from 1836 to 1913.
