Niger’s Parliament adopted, during its plenary session of May 5, four draft laws including one that adjusts and revises the country’s criminal code. MPs have voted for the insertion of a section related to torture and other punishments into the criminal code.
Niger wants to plug into the International Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment voted by the UN General Assembly on December 10, 1984.
The MPs also adopted the draft laws on the missions of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), as well as on the repression of offenses relating to the manufacture, import, export, and sale of fertilizers in Niger.
Finally, they agreed to ratify the €89.2 million credit agreement with the International Development Association (IDA) to finance the agriculture and livestock transformation project.
