Nigeria: Lagos sign MoU with Liberia to strengthen project development, joins 100 Resilient Cities in the world

Wednesday, 08 February 2017 13:31

The Government of Lagos State has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Paynesville, a city in Liberia, to facilitate information sharing on resilience in both cities, with the aim of achieving economic development. The state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode (photo), declared this after receiving a Lagos Certificate of Admission as one of the 100 Resilient Cities in the world (an initiative pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation).

According to Ambode, the partnership and network will enable the state to have access to projects that can be adopted to improve the standard of living of Lagosians, same goes for Paynesville.

Lagos is currently home to about 23 million inhabitants with an estimated 86 people moving into Lagos every hour. This creates challenges of managing a daily increase in human and vehicular movement. Now as a member of the 100 Resilient Cities of the world, we have a platform to compare notes with cities that have similar experiences,” he said.

He added that his administration’s objective is to make every community in the state economically viable and make Lagos Africa’s model megacity.
